Comparing a PC with game requirements is difficult when the processor and graphics card use different product generations or when a laptop contains both integrated and dedicated graphics. The Check Can I Run It Auto Detector reads the installed hardware model names and places them beside the selected game’s requirement data, removing the need to find every specification manually.

The report checks the processor, graphics adapter, installed RAM, dedicated video memory, available storage, drive type, Windows version, system architecture, DirectX version, and available DirectX feature levels. On computers with several graphics adapters, the detector attempts to identify the discrete gaming GPU rather than treating the integrated adapter as the main result.

The result is a compatibility comparison, not a gameplay benchmark. It can identify whether the detected hardware reaches a published reference and which component needs attention. The application does not calculate one percentage and apply it to every component. Each requirement type has its own comparison rule, and the overall result follows the weakest relevant condition.

The Weakest Relevant Check Sets the Verdict

A strong graphics card cannot cancel a failed operating-system, processor, RAM, storage, or DirectX condition. If a required component is below the minimum record, the overall report remains below minimum even when the other parts exceed the recommendation.

Unknown Hardware Produces a Review State

A newly released, renamed, virtual, or unusually reported component may not have enough evidence for an automatic pass or fail. The application labels that comparison Review and preserves the detected model name so the user can verify it manually.

Minimum and Recommended Remain Separate

The report first determines whether the PC reaches the minimum reference, then evaluates the recommended record. This prevents a system that only meets the lowest supported configuration from being presented as equivalent to the publisher’s stronger target.

Confidence Describes the Evidence

High, Moderate, or Limited confidence reflects how completely the detected models and requirement fields could be interpreted. Confidence describes the comparison data; it is not an FPS estimate or a probability that the game will launch.

The application was developed by CheckCanIRunIt.com as a focused Windows utility. Its detection, catalog, and comparison layers have separate responsibilities.

Windows Hardware Detection

The application reads local Windows system information through PowerShell, CIM classes, physical-disk records, and the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Microsoft documents the system interfaces used to identify the installed processor and graphics controller.

Offline Game Database

Version 2.0 contains 200 Windows PC games. Records are prepared from official game distribution and publisher requirement pages, then bundled with the application so a compatibility check does not require the detected hardware profile to be sent to the website.

Requirement Validation

Every catalog entry contains a source label, source address, and verification date. Minimum and recommended specifications remain separate. If a publisher omits a component or provides wording that cannot be compared reliably, the application displays Review or Not Listed instead of inventing a passing result.

Compatibility Rules

CPU and GPU model names are normalised before comparison, while RAM, VRAM, storage, Windows, and DirectX use their own checks. The final verdict follows the weakest relevant requirement rather than averaging a failed component into a misleading overall score.

Desktop Application Security

The application uses process isolation, a restricted renderer, a narrow communication bridge, blocked permission requests, and controlled external navigation. The normal hardware scan does not require administrator permission and does not modify drivers, the BIOS, or Windows performance settings.

Test and Release Checks

The release passed catalog-count, duplicate-record, malformed-field, compatibility-state, SSD, Windows architecture, JavaScript syntax, packaged-file, and dependency checks. The result engine also has an explicit Review state for hardware that cannot be classified with sufficient confidence.

How Windows Hardware Information Is Collected?

The scan uses Windows system interfaces for a defined set of hardware properties. It does not infer the result from the device name shown by the browser.

Processor, Memory, and Operating System

PowerShell queries Windows CIM information for the processor model, core and thread counts, total physical memory, operating-system caption, version, build, and architecture. These values form the system side of the comparison.

The command runs locally without an interactive PowerShell profile. The normal scan reads reported properties; it does not write registry values or change Windows configuration.

Graphics Adapter and DirectX

The detector combines graphics-controller records with a temporary DirectX Diagnostic Tool report. This provides adapter names, dedicated display memory where available, the installed DirectX version, and graphics feature levels reported by Windows.

If several adapters appear, the application evaluates the available devices and prioritises a likely discrete GPU for the game comparison. The complete adapter evidence remains relevant on hybrid-graphics laptops.

Storage Capacity and Media Type

Logical-drive information supplies available capacity, while physical-disk records help distinguish HDD, SSD, and NVMe storage. This separation matters when a game requires an SSD rather than merely recommending a certain number of gigabytes.

The scan reads current free space. Installation packages, later patches, optional texture packs, and temporary update data can require additional room beyond the publisher’s listed game size.

Temporary Data and Timeout Control

The hardware request has a 45-second limit so a stalled Windows query does not leave the application waiting indefinitely. The temporary diagnostic XML created for DirectX data is removed after it is parsed.

The resulting hardware profile is held for the current report. It is not uploaded to CheckCanIRunIt.com, attached to an account, or stored as a remote hardware history.

How the 200-Game Database Is Maintained?

A compatibility engine is only as useful as the requirement record it receives. The catalog stores the technical fields and source context needed to explain where each comparison came from.

Source Priority

Developer, publisher, and official distribution pages are preferred for game requirements. A requirement copied by several secondary websites does not become official unless it can be connected to the game’s authorised source.

Edition Control

The record identifies the intended PC title and edition. An original release, remaster, enhanced edition, expansion, or test client can carry different requirements even when the names are similar.

Structured Fields

CPU, GPU, RAM, VRAM, storage, operating system, architecture, DirectX, SSD conditions, and additional notes are stored as separate fields so one sentence is not treated as a complete hardware verdict.

Source and Review Date

Each entry keeps a source label, source address, and verification date. These details make it possible to trace a result when a publisher updates the game or replaces an earlier requirement table.

Release Validation

Automated checks reject duplicate game identifiers, malformed requirement fields, invalid compatibility states, and incomplete packaged data before a catalog release is prepared.

Versioned Updates

The bundled catalog does not change silently during a scan. New games, altered publisher requirements, and added hardware classifications are delivered through a later application version after review.

Hardware cases

Desktop, Laptop, and Integrated Graphics Results

The same product family can contain parts with different power limits, memory arrangements, and sustained performance. The detector keeps these conditions visible where Windows supplies the necessary model information.

Hybrid-Graphics Laptops

A laptop can report an integrated adapter for the desktop and a dedicated GPU for demanding applications. The scan evaluates multiple adapters and attempts to select the discrete device for the main graphics comparison instead of failing the system on the integrated adapter alone.

Windows graphics preferences and the laptop manufacturer’s control software still determine which GPU the game actually uses. Connect the charger and select the intended performance mode before judging sustained gameplay.

Mobile and Desktop Components

Related model names do not guarantee equal performance. Laptop GPUs and processors operate within power and cooling limits selected for the notebook, while desktop parts normally have different thermal and electrical limits.

When the exact mobile model cannot be classified confidently, Review is more accurate than silently treating it as the desktop version.

Integrated Graphics

An integrated GPU shares system memory and usually reports memory differently from a discrete card. The detector does not present shared memory as an equal amount of dedicated VRAM because bandwidth, allocation, and access behaviour differ.

RAM capacity, memory speed, and dual-channel operation can affect integrated-graphics performance even when the detected GPU name remains unchanged.

Virtual and Remote Adapters

Remote-desktop, virtual-machine, capture, or display-link adapters can appear in Windows graphics records without representing the GPU intended for the game. The detector filters and prioritises available adapters, but an unusual configuration may still require manual review.

The report preserves uncertainty rather than converting an unrecognised adapter into a false pass.

Why SmartScreen may show a warning

Version 2.0.0 is currently distributed as an unsigned application. The download is supplied as a ZIP archive because WordPress does not normally accept Windows executable files in its Media Library.

How to Use the Report Before Installing a Game?

A useful result should lead to a specific decision. Read the source context and the component rows before relying on the overall label.

Confirm the Game Edition

Check the title, release, and edition shown in the report. An original game, remaster, enhanced edition, expansion, or test client can use a different engine build and carry a separate requirement record.

Read the Source Target

Look for a stated resolution, graphics preset, and frame-rate target. When the publisher supplies only a hardware list, the report should not be interpreted as a promise of 1080p, High settings, or 60 FPS.

Start With the Weakest Component

A Below, Close, or Review result identifies where further checking is needed. Inspect that component before changing unrelated settings or assuming the entire computer needs replacement.

Separate Capacity From Feature Support

More RAM, VRAM, or storage can solve a capacity shortage, but it cannot add an unsupported DirectX feature level, CPU instruction, 64-bit architecture, or required Windows capability.

Match the Setting to the Limitation

Lower resolution and graphics effects can reduce GPU load. Texture quality can reduce VRAM pressure. Crowd, traffic, simulation, or view-distance settings may help a CPU limit when the game exposes those controls.

Scan Again After a Hardware Change

Run a new scan after installing more RAM, replacing a graphics card, moving the game to a different drive, or updating a driver that previously reported incomplete adapter information. A saved earlier result does not describe the changed system.

Reading the answer

What the Compatibility Result Means?

Recommended met means the detected components reach the recommended requirement record bundled for that game. Minimum met means the minimum reference is reached while one or more parts remain below the recommended level. Below minimum identifies at least one component that does not reach the minimum reference. Review needed means the application could not make a dependable comparison for every relevant part.

These states answer a narrower question than “Will every scene run smoothly?” Published game requirements are reference configurations, and publishers do not always state a resolution, graphics preset, or frame-rate target. The Auto Detector does not add an FPS promise when the source does not provide one.

Laptop cooling and power settings, GPU drivers, Windows updates, memory channels, storage condition, background applications, game patches, modifications, ray tracing, upscaling, and the chosen resolution can change the result observed during play. Treat the report as a documented starting point and test the game under its return-policy period when a purchase decision depends on exact performance.

Troubleshooting

If the Scan or Hardware Result Is Incomplete

An incomplete value should be investigated rather than treated as proof that the component is unsupported.

The Scan Times Out

Close the application, restart Windows, and try the scan once more. A damaged CIM repository, disabled Windows Management Instrumentation service, blocked PowerShell process, or security policy on a managed computer can prevent a system query from completing within 45 seconds.

Do not disable antivirus protection to force the scan. If workplace or school policy blocks a required Windows component, ask the system administrator before changing that policy.

The Wrong GPU Appears

Check whether Windows reports both the integrated and dedicated adapters in Task Manager. On a laptop, open Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics and confirm that the game is assigned to the high-performance GPU.

An outdated or incomplete graphics driver can also change the adapter name or reported VRAM. Install the appropriate driver from the GPU or laptop manufacturer, then run the scan again.

VRAM or DirectX Is Not Reported

DxDiag and the display driver supply much of this data. A basic display driver, virtual adapter, remote session, or unusual integrated-graphics configuration may omit a dependable dedicated-memory value or feature-level list.

Open dxdiag from Windows Search and compare its Display tab with the detector. A missing value should remain Review until the driver and exact adapter are confirmed.

The Game Is Not in the List

Version 2.0.0 uses a fixed catalog of 200 games. Search the full title and check the edition name first. A game added after this release or an edition that lacks reviewed requirement data will require a later catalog version.
