The information on Check Can I Run It is provided for general informational purposes. The website can help you understand the recommended PC requirements for a game, but it does not inspect your computer or replace an assessment of your particular system.

How the Can I Run It Checker Works

The Can I Run It Checker does not scan, inspect, benchmark, or analyse your computer. It does not detect your:

  • Processor;
  • Graphics card;
  • RAM;
  • Storage drives;
  • Installed games;
  • Drivers;
  • Windows configuration; or
  • Other files or hardware.

You do not enter your own PC specifications into the checker. When you select a game, the result provides the recommended PC hardware and software requirements recorded for that title. Depending on the information published for the game, this may include the processor, graphics card, RAM, storage, Windows version, DirectX support, SSD requirements, internet connection, launcher, account requirements, or other conditions.

The result may also provide information about the game itself. The checker therefore provides a game-requirements reference. It is not a personalised benchmark or diagnosis of your computer.

Sources for Game Requirements

I aim to use requirements published by the game developer, publisher, official game website, official support documentation, or authorised store page where suitable information is available.

The correct game edition matters. An original release, remaster, enhanced edition, expansion, or later PC version may have requirements different from another title carrying a similar name.

Requirements may also change after a major update. I may revise a game entry when newer or more authoritative information becomes available.

When official information is incomplete or conflicting, supporting technical sources may be considered before a page is updated. A source being official does not mean that Check Can I Run It is affiliated with that source or that the publisher has approved our presentation of its requirements.

Recommended Requirements Are Not a Performance Guarantee

A recommended hardware specification is a reference configuration. It does not guarantee identical performance on every computer containing comparable components.

Unless a developer or publisher states a specific target, a recommended specification should not automatically be interpreted as a guarantee of:

  • 30 FPS, 60 FPS, 120 FPS, or another frame rate;
  • 1080p, 1440p, or 4K resolution;
  • Low, Medium, High, or Ultra settings;
  • Ray tracing or path tracing;
  • DLSS, FSR, XeSS, or frame generation;
  • A particular level of frame-time stability; or
  • Completely stutter-free gameplay.

If an official source provides a resolution, graphics preset, frame-rate target, ray-tracing configuration, or upscaling condition, that information provides useful context for the specification. When the source does not state such a target, I do not treat one as confirmed.

Why Performance Can Differ

Two computers containing similarly named hardware can produce different gaming results. Performance can be influenced by:

  • Game version and patches;
  • Graphics drivers;
  • Resolution;
  • Graphics settings;
  • Ray tracing;
  • Upscaling and frame generation;
  • CPU and GPU power limits;
  • Laptop cooling;
  • Thermal throttling;
  • RAM capacity and configuration;
  • VRAM capacity;
  • Storage performance;
  • Background software;
  • Operating-system configuration;
  • Mods and texture packs; and
  • The condition and configuration of the computer.

Laptop and desktop components with related names can also perform differently because their power and cooling limits are not necessarily the same.

For these reasons, Check Can I Run It does not promise that a particular computer will achieve a particular gaming result solely because its components resemble the recommended specification.

Research, Evidence, and Testing

I do not claim to have personally tested every game, component, patch, driver version, graphics setting, or possible hardware combination discussed on the website.

The game-requirements checker primarily relies on researched requirement information rather than running benchmarks on a visitor’s computer.

Technical articles may use manufacturer documentation, developer information, technical standards, benchmark evidence, patch notes, driver documentation, and other relevant sources.

When I personally test something and that testing is relevant to the conclusion, direct experience may be included. When I have not performed a test myself, I do not present another source’s benchmark or finding as my own testing.

Benchmark results also require context. Hardware configuration, resolution, graphics settings, driver version, game build, test scene, measurement method, and cooling conditions can change the result.

Accuracy and Updates

I work to keep game requirements and technical information accurate, but no website can guarantee that every page will remain current indefinitely.

Games receive updates. Publishers can revise requirements. Driver behaviour changes. New hardware is released. Store pages can be edited, and older technical information may become less useful.

An error can also occur despite reasonable research. If reliable new evidence materially changes information on a page, I may update the content to reflect it.

Before making a purchase or another decision involving a high cost, check the current official information and confirm that the exact product or game edition matches the information you are using.

Hardware Purchases and Upgrades

A game’s recommended system requirements do not prove that a specific hardware component is compatible with your existing computer. Before purchasing or installing a CPU, graphics card, RAM kit, storage device, power supply, cooling system, or another component, check factors relevant to that installation. These may include:

  • Motherboard and socket compatibility;
  • BIOS support;
  • Physical dimensions;
  • Power-supply capacity and connectors;
  • Cooling requirements;
  • Memory type and supported configuration;
  • Available expansion slots;
  • Storage interfaces;
  • Case clearance; and
  • Manufacturer requirements.

The seller’s warranty, returns policy, product description, and compatibility information should also be reviewed before purchasing. If a decision depends on the physical condition or configuration of a particular computer, assistance from a qualified technician who can inspect that system may be more appropriate than general website information.

System Changes and Technical Procedures

Articles may discuss drivers, BIOS settings, graphics settings, Windows configuration, hardware installation, overclocking, undervolting, or other technical changes. These procedures can produce different results depending on the system involved.

Follow the instructions provided by the relevant hardware or software manufacturer, maintain appropriate backups, and do not continue with a procedure that you do not understand or that creates a safety risk. Check Can I Run It does not remotely perform these changes on your computer.

Games, Brands, and Third-Party Rights

Game titles, developer and publisher names, platform names, screenshots, artwork, logos, graphics-card names, processor names, and other third-party properties may belong to their respective owners.

They are referenced to identify and discuss the relevant game, company, technology, or product. Their appearance on Check Can I Run It does not mean that the rights holder operates, sponsors, certifies, or endorses this website.

Unless an actual relationship is clearly disclosed, Check Can I Run It should be treated as an independent website. The website does not provide cracked games, pirated copies, ROMs, stolen activation keys, or unauthorised game installers.
